Advocacy Action Plan
I plan to write about the importance of Early Childhood Education. I learned from my interviews and personal knowledge that Early Childhood Education programs are undergoing serious cut backs and are losing funding. I also learned from a teacher in the primary grades that children who attend preschool are far more ready for kindergarten . Children who attend preschools are more likely to have a head start especially when it comes to literacy. This information brings me to the importance of maintaining funding for effective Early Childhood Education programs. My questions for colleagues would be: what makes an effective preschool program worthy of funding? what funding sources are available? and what can we do to assure the preschool programs are funded? I hope to gain knowledge that will allow me to assist the Early Childhood Center I work for to maintain and gain funding so children are ready for Kindergarten.

I think your Advocacy research paper will be very interesting. People not in education (those that make the laws) don't have a clue about the importance of an early childhood education.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great topic to research, I am researching not only ways to keep early childhood programs running through funding but also ways to fund higher salaries for teachers in these programs. I would also like to see higher educational and experience requirements for teachers in early childhood programs.
ReplyDeleteThe state of Illinois is in so much trouble financially; as are many other states, it is hard to imagine that funding from the state government will continue much longer. So I agree that it will be a challenge to find ways to keep funding programs like Preschool for All and programs like that, that help to provide preschool for every child no matter their economic background. Finding employers who are willing to sponsor child care and preschool programs is one way to help fund programs. I have also worked in child care for a long time and agree that children who attend high quality early childhood programs are more prepared for kindergarten.
